Horl Receives Presidential Service Award & Vin Forde Memorial Award
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Mackenzie Horl, a member of the Holy Cross women's golf team, has been selected as the recipient of a Presidential Service Award and the Vin Forde Memorial Award. The Presidential Service Award is given for service and contributions to the college and greater Worcester community, while the Forde Award is presented by the faculty of the department of religious studies to the graduating senior who best exemplifies the values of Vin Forde: dedication to the academic study of religion alongside a manifest commitment to both the Catholic and civic communities, represented in the individual's service to the College, Church, and broader community. Horl received these honors in a special ceremony held in the Dinand Library on Thursday, May 25.
In addition to playing on the women's golf team, Horl has been active with Student Programs for Urban Development, serving as a youth programs intern. She is responsible for managing program directors, holding weekly meetings and organizing a recruitment night for all volunteers to attend. She worked to sponsor social change initiatives and educational events on the Holy Cross campus and in the Worcester community, and was responsible for encouraging her fellow SPUD volunteers to see the connection between the work that they are doing and the larger social injustices at hand.
Horl was also involved with the Holy Cross Admissions Office and the Student Government Association, while being a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu, Pi Sigma Alpha and Theta Alpha Kappa honor societies.
