THE LEAD: Junior forward T.J. Moore and freshman defenseman Charlie Barrow each scored a goal as the Holy Cross men’s hockey team tied Air Force, 2-2, in Atlantic Hockey action on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Moore gave the Crusaders an early lead with his 11th goal of the season at 2:51 in the first period. With the five-on-three advantage, junior forward Danny Lopez fired a pass to Moore who sent a one-timer from the left face off circle to the stick side to convert the power play goal and make the score 1–0. Sophomore defenseman Spencer Trapp also recorded an assist on the goal.
  • Air Force tied the game at 13:15 with a power play goal by Erik Baskin. Jonathan Kopacka sent a pass to Phil Boje who blasted a shot that hit off the boards and was then picked up by Baskin, who knocked it in and tied the score, 1-1.
  • Barrow scored his first collegiate goal at 17:58 off a pass off the face off from junior forward Ryan Ferrill. Barrow fired a slap shot from the blue line to increase the Crusader lead to 2-1
  • Holy Cross outshot Air Force 11-3 in the first period. The Crusaders went 1-4 on the power play and the Falcons went 1-2.
  • Air Force opened the scoring early in the second period at 1:48 with a power play goal by Jordan Himley who wristed a shot from the right face off circle to the stick side of the net to tie the score at 2-2. Kopacka and Kyle Haak each tallied an assist on the goal.
  • The Falcons outshot the Crusaders 6-4 in the second period. Air Force went 1-2 on the power play.
  • The third period went scoreless for both teams as the Crusaders outshot the Falcons 8-5 and each team went 1-2 on the power play.
  • Neither team was able to score the winning goal in overtime, making the final score 2-2. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Holy Cross outshot Air Force, 26-15.
  • Junior goalie Paul Berrafato recorded 13 saves, while Shane Starrett tallied 24.
  • The Crusaders went 1-5 on the power play, while the Falcons went 2-5.
  • Holy Cross won 34 face-offs while Air Force secured 23.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Lopez has posted at least one point in 11 straight games with six goals and six assists for 12 points. His streak is the longest for a Crusader in 11 years when Tyler McGregor posted a 12-game streak in 2005-2006. 
  • Moore has scored a team-leading 11 goals this season.
  • Barrow scored his first collegiate goal tonight.

  • The Crusaders return to action when it will host Air Force on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex at 7:05 p.m.

SKATING FOR HOPE

  • The Crusaders will partner with Skating For Hope for a fundraising event in conjunction with its home game against Air Force on Saturday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. The game is sponsored by Saint Vincent Hospital.
  • This will be the Sixth Annual Skating for Hope. This event assists cancer patients who are undergoing treatment with the cost of housing, transportation and daily needs. To date, Skating For Hope has raised over $50,000.
  • At 2:00 p.m. there will be an open skate, while at 3:00 p.m. the hockey game for the Skating For Hope Cup will begin. Then open skate will continue from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
  • Tickets for the open skate sessions, which includes a game ticket to the Crusaders’ contest versus Air Force, are $18 as a portion of the proceeds goes directly to Skating For Hope. Tickets can be purchased here using the promotional code SKATE4HOPE. Tickets can also be purchased at the door starting at 2:00 p.m.
