THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW: 

  • The Holy Cross men’s hockey team (6-5-3, 3-2-3 AHC) will return to action for a home-and-home series with second-place Army West Point (7-6-1, 7-4-0 AHC) on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10, at 7:05 p.m. The game on Friday will be at Tate Rink in West Point, N.Y., while the contest on Saturday will be at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex.
  • Army leads the all-time series, 33-31-10. Last year, the Black Knights won the season series, 3-0-1, including a 2-0 best two-out-of-three Atlantic Hockey Tournament quarterfinal series victory. The Crusaders are 3-5-2 versus Army over the last 10 meetings.
  • The Crusaders are third in Atlantic Hockey in scoring offense with 3.14 goals per game, while the Black Knights are eighth with 2.29 goals per contest. The Crusaders are tied for sixth in scoring defense by allowing 3.07 goals per game, while Army is first in the league and second nationally with 1.86 goals allowed per contest.
  • The Crusaders are fourth in the league with a .200 power play percentage, while the Black Knights are 10th with a .107 percentage. The Crusaders are ninth with a .778 penalty kill percentage, while Army is first in the conference and second in the country with a .913 percentage.

LOPEZ ON 12-GAME POINT STREAK:

  • Junior forward Danny Lopez has posted at least one point in 12 straight games with seven goals and six assists for 13 points during this stretch. His streak is the longest for a Crusader in 11 years when Tyler McGregor also posted a 12-game streak in 2005-2006. For the season, he is second on the team with eight goals, third with nine assists and tied for first with 17 points. For his career, he has 21 goals and 18 assists for 39 points. His 17 points are tied for fourth in Atlantic Hockey. His five power play goals are tied for fifth in the nation.

HOLDING ON TO THE LEAD:

  • The Crusaders are 4-0-1 this season and 29-2-4 under head coach David Berard when leading after the second period.

THE SERIES WITH ARMY WEST POINT:

  • There have been 74 meetings between these two teams in varsity games since 1966-1967. The Black Knights lead the series, 33-31-10. MOORE 2ND IN THE LEAGUE IN GOALS:

  • Junior forward T.J. Moore is second in Atlantic Hockey with 11 goals. His 0.79 goals per game are sixth nationally. This season he has 11 goals and six assists for 17 points. For his career, Moore has 37 goals and 31 assists for 68 points. He set school records by recording two straight hat tricks as the Crusaders went 1-0-1 at Niagara on Oct. 7-8. Moore is the first player in the program’s Division I history to record two straight hat tricks. He is also the first player to post three career hat tricks and the third Crusader to have a hat trick in a period. There are only 39 current college hockey players with a hat trick in their career as Moore is the only player with more than one.

BARRETT WITH 86 CAREER POINTS:

  • Senior assistant captain Mike Barrett has three goals and 11 assists for 14 points. For his career, he has 36 goals and 50 assists for 86 points.

BERRAFATO ON RICHTER AWARD WATCH LIST:

  • Junior goalie Paul Berrafato is one of 20 student-athletes named to the 2017 Mike Richter Award Watch List, as announced by Let’s Play Hockey and the Herb Brooks Foundation. The award honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men’s hockey.
