Men's Hockey Announces 2017-2018 Team Captains

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's hockey program has named senior forward Brett Mulcahy as its team captain, and senior forward T.J. Moore, senior defenseman Tommy Muratore and junior forward Michael Laffin as assistant captains for the 2017-2018 season.

"We are pleased to announce Brett, Tommy, T.J. and Michael as our captains for the 2017-2018 season," said head coach David Berard. "It is a well-deserved honor as they are outstanding representatives of our program. They are highly respected and lead by example on and off the ice. They are driven to win and set the tone for our team."


This is the second straight season that Mulcahy will be the team captain. He appeared in all 36 games this past season, tallying five goals and five assists for 10 points. He won the team's Dr. James M. Stewart Coach's Award, which is given each year to a member of the team that represents commitment, leadership and performance. Mulcahy is a veteran leader in the Holy Cross Leadership Academy and a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In the 2015-2016 season, he earned the team's Glenn "Spike" Crane Memorial Award which is given to the player who excels most in the little things and leads his teammates by example. Mulcahy has played in 102 career games with 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points.


Muratore will be an assistant captain for the second consecutive season. He played in all 36 games this past season, posting two goals and nine assists for 11 points. He won the team's Michael P. Quinn Defensive Player of the Year Award for his outstanding defensive play. This season, Muratore netted the game-winning goal against Mercyhurst in path to a 3-2 victory. He is a Veteran Leader in the Holy Cross Leadership Academy. Muratore has played in 107 career games, posting three goals and 23 assists for 26 points.


This will be the second straight year that Moore will be an assistant captain. He posted 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points this past season. He ranked second on the team in goals and third in points, while he was fifth in assists. Moore set school records by recording two straight hat tricks as the Crusaders went 1-0-1 at Niagara on Oct. 7-8. He is the first player in the program's Division I history to record two straight hat tricks. Moore is also the first player to post three career hat tricks and the third Crusader to have a hat trick in a period. He has played in 97 career games with 39 goals and 37 assists for 76 points.


Laffin played in 35 games this past season, netting eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points. He ranked fifth on the team in goals and points. As a freshman he was named the team's Rookie of the Year. He also received Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month and Rookie of the Week accolades. Laffin is an Emerging Leader in the Holy Cross Leadership Academy. He has posted 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 career points.
