Men's Hockey Defeated at Brown, 4-2
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team was defeated by the Brown Bears, as two Brown second period goals decided the game.
The Crusaders took the lead, 2-1, going into the opening period but two early second period penalties led to a five-on-three equalizer by Brown. The Bears tallied the go-ahead with a transition goal to take the lead, 3-2, in the second period.
Despite consistent offensive pressure, Holy Cross was unable to tally the equalizer in the third period and Brown scored an empty net goal with just over a minute remaining in regulation. Paul Berrafato recorded 34 saves in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1-0 HC (1st, 4:41, EV): Danny Lopez rushed the zone and broke through the Brown defense with some fancy stick work and made his way to the slot. As Ryan Ferrill was crashing into the slot, he picked up a drop pass from Lopez and stuffed the puck across the goal line.
1-1 BU (1st, 6:17, EV): Tim Lappin’s shot beat Berrafato.
2-1 HC (1st, 16:49, PP): Spencer Trapp carried the puck from the Crusaders’ defensive zone to the neutral zone and fed Michael Laffin as he crossed into the offensive zone. Scott Pooley split through the Brown defenders and received a pass from Laffin that opened him up for a clean shot at the hash marks. Pooley’s shot fired past Brown’s Gavin Nieto’s glove to the top left corner.
2-2 BU (2nd, 2:02, PP): With the Crusaders killing a five-on-three for over one minute, Brown’s Sam Lafferty sent in a shot from the bottom of the left circle that ricocheted off of the crossbar and the post.
3-2 BU (2nd, 7:19, EV): Brown’s Lafferty scored on the back door as the Bears had a three-on-one in transition.
4-2 BU (3rd, 18:37, EN): Brown’s Charlie Corcoran possessed the puck in the Crusaders’ defensive zone and sent a shot in to the open net from the half wall.
