Game Notes 

HOLY CROSS TO PLAY DARTMOUTH AND NEW HAMPSHIRE
• The Holy Cross women’s hockey team will travel to Hanover, N.H. to face Dartmouth in an exhibition game Friday, Oct. 13.
• On Saturday, the Crusaders will play New Hampshire at 2 p.m. in Durham, N.H.

RECAPPING RIT
• The Crusaders faced RIT last weekend in two games at the Hart Center Rink.
• Holy Cross tied RIT, 2-2 in first game on Oct. 7, outshooting RIT 28-26. Both teams were unable to score in the overtime period.
Maeve Reilly and Katie MacCuaig found the back of the net for the Crusaders.
• On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Crusaders and the Tigers were back on the ice. Holy Cross lost, 3-2 after the Tigers scored late.
• Holy Cross’ Reilly and Julie Matthias scored for the Crusaders both on the power play in the first and third periods, respectively.
• RIT scored with less than two minutes remaining in the third period to secure the win, 3-2.

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
• The Crusaders take on the Big Green for an exhibition game at 6 p.m. at Dartmouth.
• This is the first ever matchup between Holy Cross and Dartmouth, and the teams will play a non-conference game on Nov. 24.
• The Big Green went 7-21 overall in the 2016-17 season and 5-17 in the ECAC.
• Darmouth returns 15 athletes and welcomes seven freshmen to its roster. The Big Green lost seniors Kennedy Ottenbreit, who led the team with 11 goals.
• Returning in the net for the Big Green is junior Christie Honor, who played 323:30 minutes and recorded 152 saves.
• Dartmouth’s power play was 11.5% and the penalty kill was 86.6% for the 2016-17 season.

SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
• After the Dartmouth exhibition, the Crusaders travel to New Hampshire for their first regular season away game.
• The Wildcats are 1-0-1on the season after two games against Merrimack College.
• New Hampshire went 14-19-2 overall in the 2016-17 season and 11-11-2 in Hockey East.
• Senior Jonna Curtis led the Wildcats last year with 21 goals and 42 points.
• Junior goalie Hilary Cashin returns for the Wildcats. Chasin recorded 625 saves in 1471:31 minutes played.
• This will be the first matchup between the Crusaders and the Wildcats.

HOLY CROSS RETURNEES
• Fifteen skaters return for the Crusaders in the 2017-18 season.
• Three goalies also return for Holy Cross.
Kara Violette led the team in points (19-16-35) last season.
• Four of the team’s top five points leaders return.
Tessie Salatas played 917:29 minutes between the pipes for the Crusaders, holding a .928 save percentage in 2016-17 and enters her senior season.

FRESH FACES
• Head coach Peter Van Buskirk adds six to the roster for the 2017-18 season - two defensemen, three forwards and one goalie.
Allison Attea and Antonia Matzka will join the defensive core.
Katie MacCuaig, Grace Peluso and Mackenzie Griffith join the Crusader offense.
Julia Pelletier joins the Crusaders as a goalie.

CRUSADER CAPTAINS
• Senior Kara Violette continues at the helm of the Crusader leadership, serving as captain for the second consecutive season. Junior Tori Messina has also been named captain alongside Violette.
• Junior Sam Girard has been named assistant captain for the Crusaders.

TRANSISTION TO HOCKEY EAST
• The Crusaders will be transistioning from the Division III NEHC into the Division I Women’s Hockey East Conference next year, for the 2018-19 season.
• This season, Holy Cross will compete against Hockey East opponent, New Hampshire. In addition, the Crusaders will face Harvard and Dartmouth, who are members of the ECAC.
• The Crusaders will also have a mix of matches against Franklin Pierce, Sacred Heart, Post, Saint Michael’s and St. Anselm.
• Holy Cross will also host an exhibition game against Team China Oct. 18.

IN GOAL FOR THE CRUSADERS
• Holy Cross returns three goalies, two of which are dual-sport athletes.
• Senior goaltender Tessie Salatas enters the 2017-18 season having played 30 games, amassing 1743:21 minutes of play. She has made 544 saves and faced 589 shots for a career save percentage of .924 and 1.55 goals against average. She has an overall record of 25-4-0.
• As a junior, Salatas played in 16 games and went 11-4-0 during the 2016-17 season.
• Junior Alex Barnes also returns for the Crusaders. Barnes went 4-0-0 last season recording a .922 save percentage.
• Also returning in goal for the Crusaders is sophomore Marcia LaPlante. During the 2016-17 season, LaPlante played in eight games and made 127 saves recording a .927 save percentage.

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE CRUSADER STAFF
• The team welcomes new associate head coach Katie Lachapelle. She came to Holy Cross after nine seasons working as an assistant coach at Boston University from 2008-2017.
Michaela Tosone also joins the staff as the new director of operations. Tosone graduated from UMass Amherst where she was a member of the women’s hockey team.
