Sam Girard Named NEHC Player Of The Week
WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Sam Girard has been named the NEHC Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. This marks Girard’s second weekly award from the NEHC, as she was selected as the NEHC Rookie of the Week once last season.
Girard tallied two goals to help the Crusaders to a 2-0 weekend to start their 2016-2017 campaign. Girard netted her first goal of the season in the first nine seconds of play against Sacred Heart on the road in the team’s season opener on Friday, Oct. 28. The Crusaders went on to win the game, 3-1. Girard then notched her second score of the season in Holy Cross’ home opener on Saturday, Oct. 29, posting the game-winner with 4:31 remaining in the third period, as the Crusaders overcame a 2-0 deficit and got the 3-2 edge over the Pioneers.
Holy Cross returns to action this weekend, facing two NEHC opponents on the road. The Crusaders will travel to Plymouth State on Nov. 4 before heading to St. Michael’s on Nov. 5.
