Julie Matthias Named NEHC Player Of The Week
WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Julie Matthias has been named NEHC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday. This is the first time she has earned this honor and marks her fifth overall NEHC accolade after being named Rookie of the Week three times last season, as well as being selected to the 2015-2016 NEHC All-Rookie team.
Matthias helped Holy Cross to a 2-1-0 record last week with five points, consisting of four goals and one assist through three games. On Nov. 22, she recorded one goal in the 3-0 win over Franklin Pierce, before tallying another score in the Crusaders’ first loss of the season to Bowdoin on Nov. 26. Matthias tallied three points, including her seventh career game winner in the 3-1 victory over Wesleyan on Nov. 27. Her seven career game-winning goals rank 10th in the program’s all-time records.
She has six goals and three assists for nine points this season, which are currently tied for 10th in the NEHC. Her six goals are tied for sixth in the conference, while her two power play points are tied for the league’s lead.
Holy Cross (8-1-0, 5-0-0 NEHC) returns to action on Friday, Dec. 2, when the Crusaders head to Manchester, N.H. to take on St. Anselm at 4:00 p.m.
