WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Sam Girard has been named the C&R Tire Crusader of the Week, for competition from Jan. 2-8. Girard was selected as the Most Valuable Player at the Rutland Herald Invitational, as the Holy Cross women’s ice hockey team won the tournament title.

During Saturday’s 3-2 victory over SUNY Canton, Girard tallied a goal and an assist. Her goal gave the Crusaders a 3-1 lead at the 5:21-mark of the third period, and proved to be the game-winner. Then in Sunday’s 4-0 win over previously undefeated Endicott in the championship game, Girard added two more goals and another assist. She once again posted the game-winning goal, when she put Holy Cross up 1-0 at the 14:36-mark of the first period.

On the season, Girard ranks second on the team in scoring with 18 points on 11 goals and seven assists. Over the course of her Holy Cross career, she has totaled 25 goals and 14 assists for 39 points in 41 games played.

The Crusaders (12-2 overall, 5-1 NEHC) return to action on Friday, Jan. 13, when they travel to Castleton for a 7:00 p.m. game.
