The Holy Cross women’s ice hockey team is set to hit the road for its final two regular season away games this weekend. The Crusaders will first head to Middletown, R.I. on Feb. 10 to take on Salve Regina at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to Manhattanville the following day for a 3:00 p.m. contest.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS

  • Holy Cross enters the weekend coming off two home victories, defeating Nichols, 9-1 and Norwich, 2-1. The Crusaders are tied for second in the NEHC with an 11-2-0 conference mark and 18-3-0 overall record.
  • Holy Cross has won 11 of its last 13 games, outscoring its opponents by a 45-15 margin during this span.
  • The Crusaders are undefeated at home this season, holding a 10-0-0 record at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. Holy Cross has now won 23 straight games at home carried over from the previous two seasons, which is the longest home winning streak in the program’s history.
  • Leading the way for Holy Cross is junior co-captain forward Kara Violette with 28 points on 14 goals and 14 assists. Her points and goals rank second in the NEHC, while her assists are sixth. On her career, Violette has 40 goals, which rank 10th all-time in school history, with 46 assists for 86 points. Violette has scored at least one point in the past 10 of 11 games.
  • Senior forward Elizabeth Scala and sophomore forward Sam Girard join Violette in ranking among the league’s top-10 in scoring. Notching at least one point in eight consecutive games played, Scala is eighth in the NEHC with 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points. Right behind her in 10th is Girard who has 22 points on 13 goals and 12 assists. Girard’s five game-winners stand second in the conference.
  • Junior goaltender Tessie Salatas has seen the most time between the pipes, holding a .921 save percentage with a 1.51 goals against average for a 8-3-0 overall record.
  • Holy Cross ranks second in the NEHC in scoring defense with a 1.33 goals per game mark, while tallying 3.76 goals per game for its scoring offense.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS

  • Salve Regina is tied for 10th in the conference with a 3-9-1 NEHC record and 4-16-1 overall mark. The Seahawks most recently fell to Endicott, 4-0. 
  • Holy Cross is 27-1-1 all-time versus Salve Regina, most recently defeating the Seahawks, 5-3, at home on November 8, 2015. The Crusaders have come out on top in the past four meetings against Salve Regina.
  • Amanda Cronin leads the Seahawks with 19 points on 11 goals and eight assists.
  • Jennifer O’Connell has spent the most time in net for the Seahawks with a .918 save percentage and 3.01 goals against average.
  • Beth McCann is at the helm of the Seahawks, entering the season with a 304-128-26 overall record as a head coach over a 15-year span.

SCOUTING THE VALIANTS

  • Coming off a 2-2 tie to St. Anselm, Manhattanville is fourth in the NEHC with a 10-2-1 conference record and 13-6-2 overall mark. The Valiants will host Nichols before taking on Holy Cross.
  • The Crusaders trail the all-time series versus Manhattanville, 21-8-2. However, Holy Cross has won the past four series contests, most recently edging the Valiants, 4-3, on Jan. 2, 2016.
  • Manhattanville is led by Nicole Mensi with 20 points on 16 goals and four assists. Her 16 goals lead the conference.
  • Rose Pijaca has spent the most time in the cage for Manhattanville, holding a .940 save percentage and a 1.45 goals against average for a 7-1-2 overall record.
  • Head Coach David Turco is in his sixth season at the helm of the program.
