Crusaders Rally For Fourth Straight Win With 3-1 Victory Over Salve Regina

The Lead:  Trailing 1-0 in the second period, the Holy Cross women’s ice hockey team rallied for three unanswered goals to earn their fourth straight win with a 3-1 road victory over Salve Regina on Saturday night.


  • The Crusaders outshot the Seahawks by a 14-11 margin, however, Salve Regina earned the only two power plays of the opening period, as Holy Cross fended-off both of them. Both sides remained scoreless at the first intermission.
  • The action picked up in the second period with the Seahawks taking a brief 1-0 lead at the 5:14 mark with Amanda Cronin picking up a short-handed goal.
  • The Crusaders then answered with two goals scored just 1:01 apart to take a 2-1 lead. First on a power play at the 9:28 mark, sophomore defender Tori Messina netted the equalizer with sophomore forwards Maeve Reilly and Julie Matthias earning assists on the goal.
  • Next at 10:29, junior co-captain forward Kara Violette registered the go-ahead goal as senior forward Elizabeth Scala and senior co-captain defender Isabela Bagi each picked up assists.
  • Second period shots were 24-4 in favor of Holy Cross, as the Crusaders went 1-3 on the power play, while Salve Regina went 0-1.
  • Holy Cross entered the final frame strong, taking a 3-1 lead 29 seconds into the period with Scala scoring the goal to earn her second point of the night.
  • Holy Cross held onto its two-goal lead through the third period, successfully defending Salve Regina’s extra attacker advantage in the final 10 seconds to claim the 3-1 victory.


  • Holy Cross was led by Scala and Bagi who each recorded two points.
  • The Crusaders outshot Salve Regina, 50-20.
  • Freshman goaltender Marcia LaPlante earned the win for Holy Cross with 19 saves. She improves to a 7-0-0 record this year. Jennifer O’Connell made 47 stops for the Seahawks but took the loss.
  • The Crusaders went 1-3 on the power play, while Salve Regina went 0-5.


  • The Crusaders improve to an all-time record of 28-1-1 versus Salve Regina.
  • Holy Cross has won 12 of its last 14 games, outscoring its opponents by a 47-16 margin during this span.
  • Violette has scored at least one point in the past 11 of 12 games. She leads the team with 29 points on 15 goals and 14 assists, while ranking 10th all-time in Holy Cross history with 41 goals and 46 assists for 87 career points.
  • Scala has tallied at least one point in the last nine games she has played in. She has 25 points on 13 goals and 12 assists and 48 career points on 26 goals and 22 assists.
  • With her two assists tonight, Bagi is now tied for ninth all-time in Holy Cross history with 50 career assists.


  • Holy Cross continues its road action tomorrow at Manhattanville. The puck drops at 3:00 p.m.
