WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women’s hockey team will host Sacred Heart for a two-game home series Nov. 11 and 12 at the Hart Center Rink.

HOLY CROSS HEADLINES
• The Crusaders are 4-2-1 on the season after a dominating weekend against St. Michael’s, winning 9-0 and 9-1.
Maeve Reilly leads the Crusaders in points with seven on the season (2-3-5).
Kelsey Goostrey notched four goals against the Purple Knights and received the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance’s (NEWHA) Player of the Week Award.
Tori Messina netted two goals in the St. Michael’s series and was named the NEWHA’s Defensive Player of the Week.
Julia Pelletier has a .933 save percentage, averaging 0.98 goals against with a 3-0-1 record.
• Eleven different Crusaders scored in the two games against the Purple Knights. Thirteen Crusaders recorded two or more points through the two-game series.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Goostrey had two goals in each game against St. Michael’s.
Hannah Gillis, Kara Violette, Antonia Matzka and Reilly all have five assists on the season.
• Freshman Julia Pelletier has defended the net for Holy Cross in 57.6% of the games and is 3-0-1 on the season. Pelletier has a .933 save percentage and a 0.98 goals against average.
• The Crusaders lead the NEWHA with 32 goals.
• Holy Cross is 19% on the powerplay and has a 85.7% succes rate for the penalty kill through seven games.
• The junior class leads the Crusaders’ offense, scoring 13 of the 32 goals.
• Holy Cross has defeaded Sacred Heart 23 times in the all-time series. Thirteen of those wins were in Worcester.

RECAPPING ST. MICHAEL’S
• The Crusaders traveled to South Burlington, Vt., Friday Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4 and defeated the St. Michael’s Purple Knights, 9-0 and 9-1.
• Holy Cross leads the 2017-18 season series 2-0.
• In the first game Friday night, the Crusader recorded 64 shots on goal, a new season high.
• Goostrey led the Crusaders with four goals in two games.
• Freshman Grace Peluso notched her first career goal in the second game and was assisted by Sierra Hannough.
Katie MacCuaig scored twice against the Purple Knights and has four goals total on the season to lead the freshmen.
• Messina had two goals and one assist in the second game against St. Michael’s.
• The Crusaders went 0-1 and 3-5 on the power play through the two matchups.
• Pelletier recorded five saves against the Purple Knights in the first game. Tessie Salatas and Alex Barnes were in the net in the second game. Salatas recorded seven saves and Barnes had three saves.

SCOUTING SACRED HEART
• The Pioneers stand at 4-2-0 on the season.
• Sacred Heart dropped their first two games against Saint Anselm and won four straight at Johnson & Wales and Post.
• Taylor Moreland and Jayne Lewis lead the Pioneers with 12 points on the season.
• Sacred Heart has a 71.4% success rate for the penalty kill and went 16.7% on power plays through six games.
• Devan Kane and Sarah Erban have split time in the net for the Pioneers. Kane has a .816 save percentage, averaging 2.33 goals against. Erban has a .891 save percentage and averages 2.03 goals against. Both goalies are 2-1-0 on the season.
• Sacred Heart finished last season with a 18-9-2 record.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE PIONEERS
• Holy Cross won, 3-2, in the home opener last season, and Sam Girard scored the game-winning goal.
• Holy Cross outshot Sacred Heart, 38-25 and went 2-6 on the power play.

CRUSADERS IN EXHIBITION PLAY
• The Crusaders traveled to Dartmouth on Oct. 14 to face the Big Green. Holy Cross lost, 3-2, in overtime with goals from Reilly and Doherty.
• This was the first matchup between the Crusaders and the Big Green. The teams will play again Nov. 24.
• Holy Cross also hosted the Chinese National team in an exhibition Oct. 18.
• The Crusaders lost to the Chinese National team, 3-1, with a goal from MaCuaig.
• Pelletier was in the net for the Crusaders and recorded 36 saves.

IN GOAL FOR THE CRUSADERS
• Pelletier has played in four games notching 56 saves with a .933 save percentage and 0.98 goals against average. Pelletier’s record for the 2017-18 season stands at 3-0-1 after two wins against Franklin Pierce, a tie against RIT and a win against St. Michael’s.
• Senior goaltender Tessie Salatas has played in three games and has made 63 saves, facing 75 shots for a season save percentage of .840 and 4.50 goals against average. This season she has a 1-2-0 record.

TRANSISTION TO HOCKEY EAST
• The Crusaders will be transistioning from the Division III NEHC into the Division I Women’s Hockey East Conference next year, for the 2018-19 season.
• This season, Holy Cross competed against Hockey East opponent, New Hampshire. In addition, the Crusaders will face Harvard and Dartmouth, who are members of the ECAC.
• The Crusaders will also have a mix of matches against Franklin Pierce, Sacred Heart, Post, Saint Michael’s and St. Anselm.
• Holy Cross hosted an exhibition game against Team China on Oct. 18.

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE CRUSADER STAFF
• The team welcomes new associate head coach Katie Lachapelle. She came to Holy Cross after nine seasons working as an assistant coach at Boston University from 2008-2017.
Michaela Tosone also joins the staff as the new director of operations. Tosone graduated from UMass Amherst where she was a member of the women’s hockey team.

UP NEXT 
The Crusaders will face Harvard Nov. 17 and 18 for a two-game series.
