Football Set To Face Fordham At Yankee Stadium
The Holy Cross football team wraps up the season this week, when it heads to Yankee Stadium to battle Fordham for the 2016 Ram-Crusader Cup on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 3:00 p.m. The game will be the highlight of a once-in-a-lifetime weekend in New York City, including special events, breathtaking tours, reunion festivities, socials and community service projects.
Campus Insiders and the Patriot League Network will show a live broadcast of the Holy Cross-Fordham game. The contest can also be heard live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
Holy Cross owns an overall record of 4-6 on the year, with a 2-3 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders are coming off a 21-20 victory at Georgetown last Saturday, and stand 3-3 over their last six games.
Sophomore quarterback Geoff Wade has started four of the last six games for Holy Cross, and has hit on 69 of 107 passes for 877 yards and six touchdowns on the season. Senior wide out Jake Wieczorek currently leads the team with 54 receptions for 698 yards and five touchdowns, while totaling 1,658 all-purpose yards. Senior wide out Brendan Flaherty is also enjoying a strong year, having totaled 49 receptions for 506 yards and four touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, junior linebacker Nick McBeath leads the team with 92 tackles and eight tackles for loss, while senior linebacker Kyle Young has added 82 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. Senior defensive end Dewayne Cameron has recorded 48 tackles with seven quarterback sacks and 13 tackles for loss, and senior defensive end Ryan Smith has totaled 36 tackles with 10 quarterback sacks and one fumble recovery.
Fordham is currently 6-3 overall this season, and stands second in the Patriot League with a 3-1 mark in conference games. The Rams have won four of their last five games, and are coming off a 24-20 victory over Colgate last Saturday.
Junior tailback Chase Edmonds has led Fordham by rushing for 1,499 yards and 12 touchdowns on 205 carries, in addition to catching 17 passes for 176 yards and another score. Senior quarterback Kevin Anderson has connected on 156 of 259 passes for 1,971 yards and 22 touchdowns, while sophomore wide out Austin Longi has 44 receptions for 537 yards and four scores.
Defensively, senior linebacker George Dawson has totaled 55 tackles with seven tackles for loss, three interceptions and six pass breakups. Junior free safety Caleb Ham has added 49 tackles, three interceptions and four pass breakups, while senior linebacker David Barletta has posted 44 tackles, two sacks and two pass breakups.
