Cameron & Flaherty Earn All-New England Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior defensive lineman Dewayne Cameron and senior wide receiver Brendan Flaherty have been selected to the 2016 Division I All-New England football team, as announced by the New England Football Writers Association. They were among 31 players from around New England named to the squad, which will be honored at the New England Football Writers Banquet on Dec. 8 in Stoneham, Mass.

Cameron earns All-New England honors for the first time, after previously being named first team All-Patriot League in both 2015 and 2016. He started all 11 games for the Crusaders at defensive end this season, totaling seven quarterback sacks for 41 yards and 13 tackles for loss for 54 yards. Cameron also ranked fourth on the squad with 51 total tackles, in addition to recording one forced fumble and 10 quarterback hurries. He finished the season ranked third in the Patriot League in tackles for loss, fifth in sacks and 36th in total tackles. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, Cameron totaled 119 tackles, 16 quarterback sacks and 30 tackles for loss.

Flaherty makes his second straight appearance on the All-New England team, in addition to being a first team All-Patriot League selection in both 2015 and 2016. He started 10 games at wide receiver this season and led the team with 59 receptions for 621 yards and four touchdowns. Flaherty also rushed the ball 34 times for 117 yards and a score, while totaling 738 all-purpose yards. He finished the year ranked third in the Patriot League in receptions and ninth in receiving yards. Flaherty caught 197 passes for 2,035 yards and 17 touchdowns during his collegiate career, and ranks second all-time at Holy Cross in receptions, fifth in receiving yards and seventh in touchdown receptions.

Holy Cross concluded the 2016 season with an overall record of 4-7, and placed fifth in the Patriot League with a 2-4 mark in conference games.
