Wieczorek Selected To FCS Athletics Directors Academic All-Star Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior wide receiver Jake Wieczorek, a member of the Holy Cross football team, has been selected to the 2016 Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star team. This marks the second straight year Wieczorek has been named to the squad, which included 44 student-athletes from schools around the nation. He was also chosen as one of nine finalists for the 16th annual FCS ADA $5,000 postgraduate scholarships. Two student-athletes will receive postgraduate scholarships during the association’s annual membership meeting held in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Convention in Orlando, Fla., from June 12-15.

Wieczorek was named third team All-America and second team All-Patriot League during the 2016 season. A starter in all 11 games, he caught 55 passes for 705 yards and five touchdowns. Wieczorek also averaged 22.1 yards on 35 kickoff returns and 13.7 yards on 23 punt returns, and finished the season with a team-best 1,820 all-purpose yards. He ranked first in the Patriot League in punt returns, while standing second in all-purpose yards, sixth in kickoff returns, seventh in receiving yards and eighth in receptions.

Over the course of his collegiate career, Wieczorek caught 148 passes for 2,029 yards and 16 touchdowns, while totaling 3,629 all-purpose yards. He finished his career ranked sixth all-time at Holy Cross in receiving yards, seventh in all-purpose yards, eighth in receptions and 10th in touchdown receptions.

In the classroom, Wieczorek owns a 3.90 cumulative grade point average with a double major in economics and chemistry. He was selected as the 2016 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, in addition to earning Academic All-Patriot League and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the third year in a row.

The FCS ADA All-Star team consists of players with a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study, who are also starters or key players with legitimate athletic credentials. A special review committee of Football Championship Subdivision athletics directors was responsible for selecting the Academic All-Star team.

Holy Cross concluded the 2016 season with an overall record of 4-7, and placed fifth in the Patriot League with a 2-4 mark in conference games.
