Three Holy Cross Football Players Selected To 2017 Hampshire Honor Society

IRVING, Texas – Three graduating seniors from the 2016 Holy Cross football team have been selected to the 2017 Hampshire Honor Society, as announced by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame. The team is comprised of graduating seniors from schools across the country who were starters or key reserves and maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20. A total of 1,089 players from 297 schools across the nation were selected to this year’s Honor Society. The Holy Cross players to be honored were senior defensive back Luke Ford, senior offensive lineman Rob Kosharek and senior wide receiver Jake Wieczorek.

Ford was named Academic All-Patriot League as a senior for the second time in his career, after previously making the team in 2015. He started all 11 games at free safety, and ranked third on the team with 61 total tackles, including 53 solo stops and one tackle for loss. Ford also led the Crusaders with three fumble recoveries, to go along with one interception and two pass breakups. He finished the season ranked second in the Patriot League in fumble recoveries and 22nd in total tackles. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, Ford totaled 139 tackles, six interceptions, nine pass breakups and five tackles for loss, while playing in 38 games and serving as a team captain in 2016. In the classroom, he carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.56 with a major in economics.

Kosharek started all 11 games along the offensive line for the Crusaders in 2016, seeing action as both a tackle and a guard. He was a key part of an offensive line which paved the way for the Crusaders to average 356.0 total yards, 103.8 rushing yards and 23.5 points per game on the year, even with the team using three different starting quarterbacks and three different starting tailbacks due to injuries. Over the course of his collegiate career, Kosharek played in 29 career games with 28 starts. In the classroom, he owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 with a major in history.

Wieczorek was named third team All-America and second team All-Patriot League during the 2016 season. A starter in all 11 games, he caught 55 passes for 705 yards and five touchdowns. Wieczorek also averaged 22.1 yards on 35 kickoff returns and 13.7 yards on 23 punt returns, and finished the season with a team-best 1,820 all-purpose yards. He ranked first in the Patriot League in punt returns, while standing second in all-purpose yards, sixth in kickoff returns, seventh in receiving yards and eighth in receptions. Over the course of his collegiate career, Wieczorek caught 148 passes for 2,029 yards and 16 touchdowns, while totaling 3,629 all-purpose yards. He finished his career ranked sixth all-time at Holy Cross in receiving yards, seventh in all-purpose yards, eighth in receptions and 10th in touchdown receptions. In the classroom, Wieczorek owns a 3.90 cumulative grade point average with a double major in economics and chemistry. He was selected as the 2016 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, in addition to earning Academic All-Patriot League and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the third year in a row.

The Crusaders will look to contend for the Patriot League championship in 2017 with the return of 12 starters. Holy Cross is set to play five games at Fitton Field this fall, beginning with the home opener against New Hampshire on Sept. 16. Other key home dates will come against Lafayette (Sept. 30), Monmouth (Oct. 7), Colgate (Oct. 21) and Georgetown (Oct. 28).
