Holy Cross Names R.J. Chidester Tight Ends Coach
WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross football team has added R.J. Chidester to its coaching staff, as announced by head coach Tom Gilmore. He will serve as the tight ends coach for the Crusaders.
Chidester comes to Holy Cross from Alma College, where he was a member of the coaching staff for the last five seasons. He served as the co-defensive coordinator in 2016, when he helped the Scots lead the nation in red zone defense. Chidester was previously the co-offensive coordinator from 2014-2015, after serving as the pass game coordinator from 2012-2013.
Prior to his time at Alma, Chidester spent four seasons on the coaching staff at Defiance College from 2008-2011. He served as the team's co-offensive coordinator in 2011, after being a graduate assistant coach working with the offense from 2008-2010. While at Defiance, Chidester coached six student-athletes who earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors and one who earned All-America honors.
A 2008 graduate of Defiance, Chidester was a four-year letterwinner on both the baseball and football teams. During his senior season, he played in all 10 football games and finished fourth on the squad with 60 total tackles as a linebacker. Chidester went on to receive his master's degree in education from Defiance in 2011.
The Crusaders will look to contend for the Patriot League championship in 2017 with the return of 12 starters. Holy Cross is set to play five games at Fitton Field this fall, beginning with the home opener against New Hampshire on Sept. 16. Other key home dates will come against Lafayette (Sept. 30), Monmouth (Oct. 7), Colgate (Oct. 21) and Georgetown (Oct. 28).
