Holy Cross' Peter Pujals Wins Gold Helmet
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior quarterback Peter Pujals has received the New England Football Writers’ Association Gold Helmet, sponsored by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, as the Division I New England Player of the Week for his performance in last Thursday’s 27-20 loss to Connecticut. This marks the third time he has received the Gold Helmet in his collegiate career.
During the game against the Huskies, Pujals hit on 33 of 56 passes for 358 yards and a touchdown. He broke the 300-yard mark in passing yards for the 10th time in his career with the Crusaders, while his 56 pass attempts tied for the eighth-highest single-game total in school history.
Over the course of his collegiate career, Pujals has now completed 866 of 1,422 passes for 9,277 yards and 68 touchdowns, while rushing 435 times for 1,605 yards and 16 scores. He currently ranks second all-time at Holy Cross in career completions and pass attempts, while standing third in passing yards and fourth in touchdown passes.
The Crusaders (0-1 overall) return to action on Saturday, Sept. 9, when they travel to Bucknell for their Patriot League opener at 12:00 p.m.
