Peter Pujals Wins Gold Helmet
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior quarterback Peter Pujals has received the New England Football Writers’ Association Gold Helmet, sponsored by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, as the Division I New England Player of the Week for his performance in last Saturday’s 51-26 victory over No. 9 New Hampshire. This marks the second time he has received the Gold Helmet this season, and the fourth time he has won the honor in his collegiate career.
Against the Wildcats, Pujals hit on 21 of 39 passes for 367 yards and five scores. The five touchdown passes were the second-highest total of his collegiate career, while the 367 passing yards were his third most during his time at Holy Cross. Overall this year, Pujals has now connected on 70 of 128 passes for 903 yards and six touchdowns.
Over the course of his collegiate career, Pujals has completed 903 of 1,494 passes for 9,822 yards and 73 touchdowns, while rushing 444 times for 1,606 yards and 16 scores. He currently ranks second all-time at Holy Cross in career completions, pass attempts, passing yards and touchdown passes.
The 25th-ranked Crusaders (2-1 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) return to action this Saturday, Sept. 23, when they travel to Dartmouth (1-0 overall, 0-0 Ivy League) for a 7:00 p.m. game.
