BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Holy Cross senior linebacker Nick McBeath has been selected to the 2017 preseason All-Patriot League team in voting by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. As a team, Holy Cross placed fourth in the 2017 Patriot League preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors, receiving 39 total points. Lehigh finished first in the poll with 70 points and 11 first-place votes, followed by Fordham with 61 points and three first-place votes. Colgate came in third with 54 points, while Bucknell (fifth, 36 points), Georgetown (tied for sixth, 17 points) and Lafayette (tied for sixth, 17 points) rounded out the poll.
McBeath earned first team All-Patriot League honors last season, after starting all 11 games for the Crusaders at inside linebacker. He led the team with 106 total tackles, including 91 solo stops, one quarterback sack and eight tackles for loss. McBeath also recorded one forced fumble, one pass breakup and four quarterback hurries. He finished the season ranked first in the Patriot League and 21st in the nation in total tackles. During his Holy Cross career, McBeath has now totaled 208 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks, three forced fumbles and four pass breakups.
The Crusaders will look to contend for the Patriot League championship in 2017 with the return of 12 starters. Holy Cross is set to play five games at Fitton Field this fall, beginning with the home opener against New Hampshire on Sept. 16. Other key home dates will come against Lafayette (Sept. 30), Monmouth (Oct. 7), Colgate (Oct. 21) and Georgetown (Oct. 28).
