Holy Cross' Nick McBeath & A.J. Wells Honored By Patriot League
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior linebacker Nick McBeath and senior placekicker / punter A.J. Wells have been honored by the Patriot League for their performances in Saturday’s 20-0 victory at Bucknell. McBeath was named the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, while Wells was chosen as the Corvias Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week.
In the Bucknell game, McBeath totaled nine tackles, two tackles for loss, a quarterback sack and an interception. He helped the Crusader defense to the first shutout by a Patriot League team since 2015, while allowing just 214 total yards to the Bison. On the season, McBeath has recorded 20 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, he has now totaled 228 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and four pass breakups.
Wells scored eight points for Holy Cross in the Bucknell game, hitting both of his field goal attempts and both of his extra points. He made a 25-yard field goal in the first quarter and added a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter. Wells also averaged 37.5 yards on six punts, with one kick downed inside the Bison 20-yard line. On the season, he ranks second on the team in scoring with 16 points, hitting four of five field goals and all four of his extra points.
The Crusaders (1-1 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) return to action this Saturday, Sept. 16, when they play host to No. 9 New Hampshire at 1:05 p.m.
