Peter Pujals, Nick McBeath & A.J. Wells Honored By Patriot League

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior quarterback Peter Pujals, senior linebacker Nick McBeath and senior placekicker A.J. Wells have been honored by the Patriot League for their performances in Saturday’s 51-26 victory over No. 9 New Hampshire. Pujals was named the Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, McBeath was selected as the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and Wells was chosen as the Corvias Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week. This marks the second straight week McBeath and Wells have been honored by the conference, while Pujals earns Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time in his collegiate career.

In the New Hampshire game, Pujals hit on 21 of 39 passes for 367 yards and five scores. The five touchdown passes were the second-highest total of his collegiate career, while the 367 passing yards were his third most during his time at Holy Cross. Overall this year, Pujals has now connected on 70 of 128 passes for 903 yards and six touchdowns. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has hit on 903 of 1,494 passes for 9,822 yards and 73 touchdowns, while rushing 444 times for 1,606 yards and 16 scores.

McBeath totaled a game-high 14 tackles against New Hampshire with a quarterback sack and a pass breakup. The 14 total tackles were the second-highest total of his Holy Cross career. On the season, McBeath has recorded a team-best 34 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, he has now totaled 242 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and five pass breakups.

Wells scored a career-high 14 points in the New Hampshire game, hitting all three of his field goal attempts and all five of his extra points. He kicked three first half field goals to help give the Crusaders a 16-7 halftime lead, including a career-long 46-yarder, which tied for the sixth-longest field goal in school history. On the season, he leads the team in scoring with 30 points, hitting seven of eight field goals and all nine of his extra points.

The Crusaders (2-1 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) return to action this Saturday, Sept. 23, when they travel to Dartmouth (1-0 overall, 0-0 Ivy League) for a 7:00 p.m. game.
