BRONX, N.Y. – Senior quarterback Peter Pujals accounted for 257 yards of total offense and two touchdowns to lead the Holy Cross football team to a 42-20 victory over Fordham at Jack Coffey Field. The Crusaders improve to 4-6 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Rams fall to 3-7 on the season and 2-3 in the conference.

The Crusaders took a 7-0 lead at the 12:34-mark of the first quarter on a 61-yard fumble return by senior linebacker Nick McBeath, after a strip sack by  junior defensive end Teddy Capsis. The Rams came back with a pair of touchdown runs by Chase Edmonds in the second quarter, before a 15-yard scoring run by senior tailback Gabe Guild tied the score at 14-14 heading into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Holy Cross used a 40-yard touchdown run by sophomore tailback Miles Alexander and a one-yard scoring pass from Pujals to senior tight end Jayke Simsheuser to take a 28-14 lead. The Crusaders then put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Pujals to senior wide out Blaise Bell and a one-yard scoring run by senior tailback Diquan Walker. The Rams concluded the scoring on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Austin King to Hunter Harris with six seconds remaining.



  • Following the contest, Pujals was selected also as the Man of the Match presented by the United States Marines.
  • He hit on 15 of 25 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing 11 times for 82 yards
  • Capsis earned the SERVPRO of South Worcester In the Trenches Lineman of the Game award.
  • He finished the afternoon with three tackles, two quarterback sacks and a forced fumble.



  • Holy Cross amassed 529 yards of total offense on the day, including a season-high 354 rushing yards.
  • Guild led the Crusader ground game with 107 yards and a score on 10 carries.
  • Senior wide out Andre Harton finished with a team-high six receptions for 77 yards.
  • McBeath and junior linebacker Ryan Brady both recorded nine tackles on the day.



  • The Crusaders’ 354 rushing yards were their most since running for 419 yards at Central Connecticut on Sept. 14, 2013.
  • Guild now has 2,029 career rushing yards, and is just the eighth player in school history to break the 2,000-yard mark.
  • Holy Cross claimed the Ram-Crusader Cup for the first time since 2011.



  • Holy Cross concludes the 2017 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 11, when it travels to Lehigh for a 12:30 p.m. game.
