Holy Cross Set To Conclude 2017 Season At Lehigh
The Holy Cross football team wraps up the 2017 season this week, when it heads to Lehigh for a 12:30 p.m. game on Saturday, Nov. 11. The contest between the Crusaders and the Rams will be shown by Stadium and the Patriot League Network, and can be heard live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
Holy Cross stands 4-6 overall this year with a 3-2 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders own victories over No. 9 New Hampshire (51-26), Bucknell (20-0), Georgetown (24-10) and Fordham (42-20), while falling to Connecticut (27-20), Dartmouth (27-26 in overtime), Lafayette (10-7), Monmouth (48-36), Yale (32-0) and Colgate (45-7). Holy Cross currently ranks 22nd in the nation in kickoff coverage (17.6 yards per return), 23rd in third down conversion defense (33.1 percent), 25th in rushing defense (118.7 yards per game) and 26th in passing offense (252.0 yards per game).
Senior quarterback Peter Pujals has led the Crusader offense by completing 220 of 394 passes for 2,500 yards and 15 touchdowns. Senior wide out Blaise Bell has posted 44 receptions for 546 yards and six scores, while junior wide receiver Martin Dorsey has caught 37 passes for 496 yards and two touchdowns. Senior tailback Gabe Guild leads the Holy Cross ground game with 440 yards and two scores on 88 carries.
On the defensive side of the ball, senior linebacker Nick McBeath leads the team with 105 tackles, four sacks, 11 tackles for loss, two interceptions, four pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. Junior linebacker Ryan Brady has added 97 tackles, three sacks, nine tackles for loss and two pass breakups, while senior defensive tackle Jack Kutschke has recorded 39 tackles, four sacks, 12 tackles for loss and two pass breakups.
Lehigh currently stands 3-6 overall this year with a 3-1 mark in the Patriot League. After losing their first five games, the Mountain Hawks have won three of their last four with victories over Colgate (41-38), Georgetown (54-35) and Bucknell (42-21).
Junior quarterback Brad Mayes has led Lehigh by hitting on 208 of 337 passes for 2,925 yards and 25 touchdowns with 12 interceptions this season. Junior tailback Dom Bragalone has carried the ball 171 times for 999 yards and 12 scores, while senior wide out Troy Pelletier has 75 receptions for 991 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, sophomore linebacker Keith Woetzel has totaled 67 tackles with six tackles for loss and a pass breakup. Junior linebacker Mark Walker is also enjoying a strong season with 38 tackles, an interception and two fumble recoveries.
Holy Cross currently stands just a half game out of first place in the Patriot League at 3-2, with Colgate, Lafayette and Lehigh all tied at 3-1. If the Crusaders defeat the Mountain Hawks this week, they could tie for the Patriot League Championship if the winner of this week’s Colgate-Lafayette game falls in its season finale on Nov. 18.
