Women's Swimming And Diving Takes Sixth At The Harold Anderson Invitational

The Lead: The Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team recorded 10 season-best times but finished sixth out of six teams with 296 points at the Harold Anderson Invitational hosted by Rhode Island on Nov. 18-19.

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Starting off with the 400 medley relay, the team of junior Nina Sparre, sophomore Caroline Body, junior Maura Mullaney and junior Katie Conners took ninth place, swimming for a season-best time of 4:06.41.
  • Next, senior co-captain Kristin Lane led the Crusaders in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:27.35, placing 21st overall.
  • Mullaney was the first Crusader to finish in the 200 IM, swimming for 19th place, registering a time of 2:18.13. Freshman Erin Boddie recorded a season-best time of 4:51.61 in the 400 IM.
  • In the 50 freestyle, Conners notched a third-place finish with a season-best time of 24.63. Conners later finished ninth in the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 1:57.01 before placing fourth in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 53.68.
  • In the 200 freestyle relay, the squad of freshman Sarah Underhill, freshman Alicia Vesey, sophomore Emma Gurchiek and Conners took ninth place with a time of 1:41.90, ranking as a season-best mark. The team of sophomore Jenny O'Brien, Body, Mullaney and Sparre were the first Holy Cross team to finish in the 200 medley relay, taking 13th place with a time of 1:55.78.
  • Sophomore Casey Sherman finished seventh place in the one-meter dive, tallying a score of 178.55. Sherman later notched 192.55 points in the three-meter dive, finishing sixth overall.
  • For the 100 butterfly, Mullaney led Holy Cross with a ninth-place finish and season-best time and career-record of 1:00.32, before placing fourth in the 200 butterfly with a season-best time of 2:10.71.
  • Underhill recorded the top time for the Crusaders season-best mark of 1:10.16 for Holy Cross in the 100 breaststroke, finishing 11th overall. Senior co-captain Gina DeFloria followed up with a top time and season-best mark of 2:34.61 in the 200 breaststroke for a 16th place spot.
  • With a time of 1:02.00, O’Brien was the first Holy Cross swimmer to finish in the 100 backstroke, taking 15th place. O’Brien also was the first Crusader to finish in the 200 backstroke with a ninth place finish and season-best time of 2:11.03.
  • Swimming the 1,650 freestyle for the first time this season, freshman Leah Zogby notched a 10th place finish, logging a time of 18:05.05.
  • To conclude the meet, the team of Mullaney, Zogby, freshman Madeline Fitzgerald and Sparre finished 15th in the 400 freestyle with a time of 3:50.63.
  • Rhode Island captured the title with 920.5 points.

  • The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 in a dual meet at Providence at 10:00 a.m.
