Women's Track And Field Competes In Day One Of Patriot League Outdoor Championship

The Lead: The 4x800-meter relay team of juniors Meghan Dietter, Claire Turner and Zoe Matherne, as well as senior co-captain Rachel Sowinski, took third place at day one of the Patriot League Outdoor Championship hosted by Lehigh on Friday. The Crusaders are currently in fifth place with 22.5 points. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The 4x800-meter relay team notched a season-best mark of 8:59.20, as the squad qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Championship.
  • Junior Hannah Jeter ran a season-best time of 37:08.07 in the 10,000-meter run to take fifth place for the Crusaders and score four points. Her mark met the ECAC Outdoor Championship qualifying standard.
  • Two Crusaders advanced to Saturday's finals in their respective track events. Sophomore Isabella DiMare took seventh place in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries with her time of 14.71. Classmate Alexandra Curtin then placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 12.30.
  • Freshman Allie Smiley led the way for Holy Cross in the long jump, placing fourth with her personal-best distance of 5.69 meters. Curtin landed just behind her in sixth place (5.60 meters), while junior Alanna Hitscherich finished sixth overall with her mark of 5.53 meters.
  • After the first set of events in the outdoor heptathlon, senior co-captain Jennifer Kimball (2,548 points) and sophomore Lauren Rasmus (2,462 points) are in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Kimball notched season-best times of 15.88 in the 100-meter hurdles and 27.69 in the 200-meter dash, as well as a personal record distance of 10.20 meters in the shot put. Rasmus recorded personal records of 9.35 meters in the shot put and 26.43 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
  • After day one, Bucknell leads the way with 82 points.

  • The Crusaders return to action tomorrow for the final events of the 2017 Patriot League Outdoor Championship.
