Taylor Wahler Named Patriot League Player Of The Week
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore shortstop Taylor Wahler has been named the Corvias Patriot League Softball Player of the Week for competition from March 27-April 2, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. This is the second Patriot League weekly accolade for Wahler, as she was named the Corvias Patriot League Rookie of the Week as a freshman.
Wahler led the team at the plate during the Crusaders’ Patriot League opening weekend, as Holy Cross took the three-game series over Army West Point, 2-1. Wahler led the team with a .750 slugging percentage, .500 batting average (6-for-12), four RBIs and hit her first home run of the season.
Wahler had two hits in the opening game on Saturday, April 1, as the Crusaders were edged by the Black Knights, 7-6. She then had three RBIs in the 4-2 game two win over Army, including a two-run home run to left field that hit off the scoreboard. In the final game of the series, she again batted .500 (2-for-4) with a RBI single and one run scored to lead Holy Cross to a 5-2 victory.
The last time Holy Cross won the series over Army was 2001, while the Crusaders are off to their best start in conference play since 2014. Wahler has batted. 500 (11-for-22) over the past six games, tallying at least two hits in five-straight games and at least one hit in six-straight games. She leads the team this season with a .368 batting average, 25 hits and two triples.
Holy Cross (5-16, 2-1 Patriot League) picks up the conference action at the weekend from April 8-9 with a three-game series at Boston University, as part of the Turnpike Trophy series.
