Menís Golf Coach Bob Molt Announces His Retirement At Conclusion Of 2016-2017 Season
WORCESTER, Mass. – For the last four decades, the name Bob Molt has been synonymous with the golf programs at the College of the Holy Cross. Today Coach Molt announced he will retire as Holy Cross’ head men’s golf coach at the conclusion of the 2016-2017 school year. Molt just completed his 40th season as the Crusaders’ head men’s golf coach, and also spent 13 years as the head coach of the Holy Cross women’s golf team from 2000-2013.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to have served the College of the Holy Cross for the last four decades,” said Molt. “I have thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to coach so many outstanding student-athletes throughout my time here, and I am look forward to one final season at the helm and to going out on a high note into retirement.”
Molt took over the program in the fall of 1976, following the retirement of Gerry Anderson. He has led the teams to a great deal of success, with the men’s squad making back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 1982 and 1983, in addition to claiming a number of Worcester City championships. In October of 2006, Molt received the Gordon McCullough Coaching Award from the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association. The McCullough Award is presented annually to a coach for outstanding dedication to college golf, and for contributions to players, fellow coaches and golf committees at local and regional levels.
“I would like to thank Coach Molt for his leadership and incredible dedication to our student-athletes, Holy Cross and the game of golf. He will be missed by the entire Holy Cross community,” said director of athletics Nathan Pine. “Over the course of his four-decade career, he has positively impacted the lives of countless young men and women. We are looking forward to celebrating Coach Molt’s outstanding career throughout this final season.”
In recent years, Molt directed the career of Steve Zychowski (Class of 2013), who won the 2011 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association title and was a three-time qualifier for the United States Amateur Championship. He also coached Matt Czarnecki (Class of 2008), who won the 2007 Patriot League individual title and was selected to the Patriot League 25th Anniversary team. All told, Holy Cross golfers have earned 13 spots on the All-Patriot League teams under Molt’s tutelage.
Molt is a 1972 graduate of the University of Arizona, and is a PGA Professional. He served as the Director of Golf at Pleasant Valley Country Club for 22 years, and currently owns and operates the Solomon Pond Golf Center. Molt has played on the PGA Tour and numerous other tournaments, both overseas and in the United States.
