Men's Tennis Falls To Eastern Nazarene, 5-2, In First Match Of The Season

  • The Lead: The Holy Cross men’s tennis team opened their season with a 5-2 loss to Eastern Nazarene in Worcester on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions claimed a point in doubles play after winning all three matches by scores of 7-6, 7-5 and 6-1.
  • Freshman Matthew Slowinski notched a point for the Crusaders, earning a hard-fought singles victory at the No. 1 spot. After falling in the first set 4-6, Slowinski won set two at 6-4 and earned the win in the tiebreaker 10-2.
  • Senior Tom Cimini also earned a point for Holy Cross in the No. 6 singles match. Earning a 6-0 set one win before falling 4-6 in set two, he clinched the win in a close tiebreaker with a score of 13-11.
  • Junior Peter Campito fell in the No. 2 singles match by a score of 6-3, 6-2; while freshman Matthew Fagan lost at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-0.
  • At No. 4 singles, freshman Andrew Vroman fell in two sets, 6-1 and 7-5, before sophomore Matthew Murphy lost the No. 5 match 6-2 and 6-4.

  • Holy Cross returns to action this weekend, as the Crusaders compete in the UConn Tournament in Storrs, Conn. beginning this Friday, Sept. 15.
