Volleyball Announces 2017 Schedule

2017 Schedule

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross volleyball head coach Melissa Batie-Smoose, along with director of athletics Nathan Pine have officially announced the 2017 volleyball schedule. The Crusaders are set to compete in four tournaments, 11 home contests, four neutral site matches, 14 away competitions and face 16 Patriot League foes in 29 total matches. This year's schedule includes two opponents who made it to the 2016 NCAA Tournament (New Hampshire and American).

OPENING THE SEASON IN THE BIG APPLE

The Crusaders will open their 2017 slate in New York City at St. John's Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic from Aug. 25-26. Holy Cross will take on three opponents, including the host St. John's and New Hampshire on Aug. 25. The Crusaders will wrap up the tournament with Sacremento State on Aug. 26.

HOLY CROSS HOSTS CRUSADER CLASSIC

Holy Cross will return home to Worcester from Sept. 1-2 to host the Crusader Classic at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. Three teams will travel to the Hill to participate in the tournament consisting of six matches. Taking on all three opponents, Holy Cross will face Fairleigh Dickinson in its home opener on Sept. 1 before squaring off with Brown and Manhattan to close out the action on Sept. 2.

NEXT STOP: RHODE ISLAND

The Crusaders will pick up the action in Providence the following weekend from Sept. 8-9 at the Friar Classic. Going 2-1 at last year's Friar Classic, Holy Cross is set to begin action at the tournament against Providence on Sept. 8 and then take on St. Francis College (N.Y.) and Rider on Sept. 9. After the tournament, Holy Cross will head to North Smithfield, R.I. the following week for a midweek contest at Bryant on Sept. 12.

HEADING ON DOWN TO OUR NATION'S CAPITAL

Holy Cross will head down to Washington, D.C. from Sept. 15-16 for the George Washington Invitational, which will serve as the Crusaders' final tournament of the regular season. Holy Cross will take the court against George Washington on Sept. 15 before facing UMBC later in the day. The Crusaders will conclude their non-conference action with Delaware on Sept. 16.

OPENING PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAY

The opening weekend for conference play is set for Sept. 22-23, as Holy Cross is set to begin its quest for a Patriot League championship on the road at Lafayette (Sept. 22) and Lehigh (Sept. 23). The Crusaders will then return to Worcester to play their next four conference teams at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. Holy Cross will face the defending Patriot League champion, American, on Sept. 29 and Navy on Sept. 30. The next pair of home conference matches will take place on the following weekend, when Holy Cross hosts Colgate on Oct. 7 and Army West Point on Oct. 8.

THERE AND BACK AGAIN

The Patriot League action continues from Oct. 13-14 with away games at Loyola Maryland (Oct. 13) and Bucknell (Oct. 14). The Crusaders will host Lehigh on Oct. 20 and Lafayette on Oct. 21.

CLOSING OUT THE REGULAR SEASON

Holy Cross will play four straight matches on the road before playing its final two regular season contests at home. The Crusaders will head to Annapolis, Md. to face Navy (Oct. 27) and Washington D.C. to take on American (Oct. 28). For its final regular season road trip, Holy Cross will head to New York for matches against Army (Nov. 3), then Colgate (Nov. 4). The Crusaders will play its last two regular season matches at home, hosting Bucknell on Nov. 10 and Loyola (Md.) on Nov. 11.

THE PATRIOT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

The top four teams in the conference advance to the Patriot League Tournament, taking place from Nov. 18-19. The highest seed will host the tournament.
