WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to American in straight sets Friday night. Freshman outside hitter Katie Kerins led the Crusaders with five kills and two blocks, while freshman setter Kathleen Philo tallied 12 assists and two kills against the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Eagles opened the first set strong, jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead. The Crusaders tallied six straight points near the end of the set, yet American took a 1-0 lead, capturing the set 25-13.

  • American gained an early lead in the second set, but the Crusaders battled back. A kill by senior middle hitter Mary Mullen cut the American lead to 17-14. However, the Eagles controlled the rest of the set and got the 2-0 set lead.

  • Holy Cross began the third strong taking a 4-1 lead, with kills from sophomore outside hitter Alessandra Vasquez and Kerins, but the Eagles were able to recover and take a 6-5 lead off a Crusader service error. They never gave up the lead and earned the 25-13 set victory and the match 3-0.
