Anthony Critelli Named A Senior CLASS Award Candidate
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior first baseman Anthony Critelli was one of 30 candidates selected for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award for baseball, as announced by the organization.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
“Anthony is an extremely intelligent and hard-working individual who is vital to the overall success of Holy Cross Baseball,” said head coach Greg DiCenzo. “He has had a tremendous impact on and off the field.”
A first-team All-Patriot League selection in 2016, Critelli was named the Patriot League’s preseason Player of the Year at the beginning of the season. Last year, he led the Crusaders with 41 RBIs while posting a .462 slugging percentage through 57 games played. Critelli also tied for the team lead with nine home runs on the year. So far this season, Critelli has posted a .286 batting average while posting nine RBIs with six runs scored and two home runs.
Critelli has been involved with many organizations in the Worcester community. Critelli and his teammates have been continued supporters of the Vs. Cancer Foundation, which partners with collegiate baseball programs across the country to battle pediatric cancer. The baseball team has also been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters and Team IMPACT.
The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists in late April, whose names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2016 NCAA College World Series in June.
