HOW IT HAPPENED:
Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as senior Anthony Critellihit a solo shot home run to left field.
Hartford tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a solo home run.
The Crusaders regained control of the lead with three runs on two hits in the top of the fifth. Holy Cross scored runs on a wild pitch and a passed ball before senior Josh Hassellbrought home a third run with an RBI double.
The Hawks added a run in the bottom of the fifth, and took the lead once again in the seventh with a pair of runs on two hits.
In the eighth inning, Holy Cross answered with two runs to make it 6-5 in their favor. Senior Bill Schlichand sophomore Kellen McCormickbrought home runs on back-to-back at-bats.
In the bottom of the inning, Hartford added a run to tie the game up, eventually leading to extra innings.
The Hawks earned the walk-off victory in the bottom of the 10th with an RBI single through the left side to score a runner from third base.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Hartford outhit the Crusaders 14-8.
The Hawks left 10 runners on base, while Holy Cross left six.
Freshman Ethan Dyertook the loss after pitching 0.1 innings in relief in the bottom of the 10th.
John LaRossa earned the win for Hartford, pitching one inning in relief.
Critelli led the Crusaders with a pair of runs scored while hitting 1-for-3 with an RBI.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Critelli’s home run was his third of the season, and the 19th of his career.
Holy Cross will return to action this Sunday, as the Crusaders open Patriot League play against Navy with a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
