Anthony Critelli Receives Varsity Club Norton Prize
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior first baseman Anthony Critelli, a member of the Holy Cross baseball team, has been selected as the recipient of the 2017 Varsity Club Norton Prize. The Norton Prize is awarded to an outstanding student-athlete, and was presented in a special ceremony held in the Dinand Library on Thursday, May 25.
During his senior year, Critelli earned first team All-Patriot League honors for the third-straight season. He currently leads the Crusaders with a slugging percentage of .513, in addition to posting a team-best .295 batting average. Critelli has also totaled 30 runs batted in with 27 runs scored, 10 doubles, eight home runs, a .991 fielding percentage and 285 putouts on the year. He is tied for first place all-time in program history with 24 career home runs, while ranking second with 50 career doubles.
Off the field, Critelli participated in the team's tradition of shaving their heads to help raise awareness for cancer research, as the Crusaders worked to raise money this season for the Vs. Cancer Foundation. This season Holy Cross also hosted an ALS Awareness game in support of the Pete Frates Foundation, and a Military Appreciation game in which the team sold customized hats with proceeds benefiting the Home Base Program. The team has also been involved with Team IMPACT and previously with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
The Crusaders will return to action in the regional round of the NCAA Tournament on June 2-5. The NCAA Tournament selection show is scheduled for Monday, May 29, at 12:00 p.m. on ESPN2.
