Baseball Opens Corvallis Regional Against No. 1 Oregon State

The Holy Cross baseball team makes its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1978 this weekend in Corvallis, Ore.


  • The Crusaders captured their first-ever Patriot League Tournament title against Bucknell, and punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. To read the recap from the championship, click here.
  • SeniorAnthony Critelli leads Holy Cross with a .302 batting average and a .543 slugging percentage. He has tallied nine home runs with 34 runs batted in, 30 runs scored and 12 doubles. He broke the school record for career home runs with his 25th against Yale last weekend, and tied the career doubles record at 52.
  • JuniorCam O'Neill leads the Crusaders with 42 runs batted in and nine home runs on the season. He has also notched 29 runs scored while posting a slugging percentage of .411.
  • SeniorBrendan King leads the Crusaders' starting rotation with a 4.06 ERA through 75.1 innings pitched. In 14 starts he has tallied 58 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .232 batting average. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the Patriot League Tournament.
  • Freshman Austin Masel has also been strong offensively for the Crusaders all season, batting .299 while leading the team with 36 runs scored. He has also brought in 25 runs while hitting 11 doubles and four home runs. Masel was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year.

  • Friday night's game between Oregon State and Holy Cross will be broadcast on ESPNU, and can also be viewed online or with the Watch ESPN app on mobile devices. The first game of the regional between Nebraska and Yale will be broadcast online via ESPN3.


  • The Holy Cross Alumni Association will be hosting a pre-game party for all Holy Cross fans and alumni who will be attending the Holy Cross-Oregon State game this Friday, June 2. The gathering will take place at Clodfelter's Pub in Corvallis (only a six minute walk from Goss Stadium) beginning at 6:00 p.m. The first pitch for the Holy Cross-Oregon State game is set for 8:00 p.m. PDT.



  • Oregon State carries a 49-4 overall record into the NCAA Tournament following a 27-3 season in the Pac-12. The Beavers are currently the No. 1-ranked team in the country according to
  • Oregon State won back-to-back National Championships in 2006 and 2007.
  • Nick Madrigal leads the Beavers' offense, batting .377 on the year with 47 runs scored and 31 RBIs. He also leads his team with 18 doubles on the season.
  • Luke Heimlich leads Oregon State's starting rotation with a 0.81 ERA through 111.1 innings pitched. In 15 starts he has posted a 10-1 record and amassed 120 strikeouts.
  • Head coach Pat Casey is in his 23rd season with the Beavers.


  • Nebraska enters the tournament with a 35-20-1 record following a 16-7-1 year in the Big Ten. The Huskers are ranked 25th in the nation by the Baseball America poll.
  • Nebraska has made three College World Series appearances, most recently heading to Omaha in 2005.
  • Scott Schreiber leads the Huskers' offense, batting .335 on the year while tallying 43 runs scored and 50 RBIs. He has posted a slugging percentage of .491 while hitting 15 doubles and six home runs.
  • Jake Meyers leads Nebraska's starting rotation with a 3.09 ERA in 78.2 innings pitched. In 13 starts he has posted a record of 8-1 while tallying 52 strikeouts.
  • Head coach Darin Erstad is in his sixth year with the Huskers.


  • Yale punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament after winning their sixth Ivy League Championship with a pair of wins over Penn. The Bulldogs won game one by a score of 5-0 before clinching the title with an 11-7 win in game two.
  • The Bulldogs enter the tournament with a record of 32-16 following a 16-4 season in Ivy League play.
  • Benny Wanger leads Yale's offense with a .352 batting average and 48 runs batted in on the year.
  • Scott Politz leads the Bulldog's starting rotation with a 3.47 ERA and 69 strikeouts through 83.0 innings pitched. In that time he has held a record of 10-2 with six complete games.
  • Head coach John Stuper is in his 25th season with Yale.
