Austin Masel Named Freshman All-American

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman outfielder Austin Masel was named to Collegiate Baseball's 2017 Freshmen All-American team. Masel was one of 23 outfielders in the country named to the squad.

Last month, Masel earned second team All-Patriot League honors in addition to being named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year. He was one of the Crusaders' top batters all season, finishing the year with an average of .290 while leading the Crusaders with 37 runs scored. Masel ranked second on the team with 12 doubles while notching 27 runs batted in and four home runs.

Starting in all 53 games at center field, he led Crusader outfielders with 121 putouts on the year while posting a fielding percentage of .992. Masel also led the Crusaders with 19 multiple-hit games.

Holy Cross went 24-29 on the season, and captured its first-ever Patriot League Championship to secure its first bid to the NCAA Tournament since 1978. The Crusaders also earned their first win in the NCAA Tournament since 1978 with a 7-4 victory over No. 25 Nebraska.
