Men's Basketball Heads North To Battle Maine

The Holy Cross men’s basketball team plays the last of three straight road games this week, when it travels to Maine for a 5:30 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The game can be seen online through ESPN3, and will also air live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.

Holy Cross currently stands 3-5 overall this season. The Crusaders have lost two of their last three games, and are coming off a 56-53 setback at New Hampshire on Saturday night. Holy Cross leads the Patriot League in both assist-to-turnover ratio (1.34-to-1) and turnover margin (+3.9 turnovers per game).

Senior guard Robert Champion leads the team by averaging 12.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Senior forward Malachi Alexander has also been playing well, averaging 12.1 points, 5.6 boards and 1.3 steals per contest while hitting 41.5 percent of his three-point attempts. In addition, sophomore forward Karl Charles has added 9.6 points, 3.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Maine enters the game with an overall record of 2-6 so far this season. The Black Bears have lost five of their last six games, with the only win during that time being a 96-45 victory over Division III Maine-Presque Isle. In its last contest, Maine was defeated by Duke 94-55.

Junior guard Wes Myers leads the team by averaging 13.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, while hitting 45.0 percent of his three-point field goal attempts. Junior guard Ilker Er has added 11.1 points and 3.9 boards per contest, while freshman forward Andrew Fleming is chipping in with 9.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Following the contest at Maine, Holy Cross will return home to play host to Quinnipiac on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 1:05 p.m.
