  • The Lead: Senior guard Robert Champion scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Holy Cross men’s basketball team to a 75-57 victory over Quinnipiac at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex.

 

MAN OF THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES MARINES:

  • After the game, Champion was selected as the United States Marines Man of the Match.
  • In addition to his 28 points, Champion totaled six rebounds, four assists and a career-best five steals.
  • He hit 11 of 15 field goal attempts on the day, including five of seven shots from three-point range.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Crusaders made 58.7 percent of their shots from the floor and 50.0 percent of their three-pointers as a team.
  • Holy Cross also totaled a season-high 16 steals, while forcing the Bobcats to commit 21 turnovers.
  • Sophomore forward Karl Charles finished the game with 14 points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals.
  • Senior center Matt Husek added 10 points and four assists.
  • Quinnipiac was led by Mikey Dixon with 17 points and four assists.

 

POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE:

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Crusaders held a 6-5 lead after the first three minutes of play, before going to an 11-2 run (with all 11 points by Champion) to take a 10-point advantage (17-7).
  • Holy Cross was still up by 10 (20-10) with 10:43 left in the half, before the Bobcats used an 11-3 spurt to close the gap.
  • The Crusaders went on to outscore Quinnipiac 6-1 over the final five minutes of the half, and took a 34-26 advantage into the locker room.
  • Holy Cross started the second half on fire, using a 13-2 run over the first five minutes to take a commanding 47-28 lead.
  • Husek scored eight of his points during that spurt.
  • The Bobcats would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way, as the Crusaders cruised to an 18-point victory.

 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Holy Cross’ field goal percentage of 58.7 was its best of the season.
  • The Crusaders’ 16 steals were their most since recording 16 steals against Fairfield on Nov. 12, 2006.
  • Holy Cross recorded 23 assists on its 27 made baskets.
  • Prior to the contest, the Crusaders unveiled their 2016 NCAA Tournament banner.
