After having the last week off for final exams, the Holy Cross men’s basketball team returns to the court on Sunday, Dec. 18, when it travels to Rhode Island for a 12:30 p.m. contest. The game can be seen online through the Atlantic 10 Network, and will also air live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.

Holy Cross currently stands 4-6 overall this season. The Crusaders have won four of their last seven games, and are coming off a 75-57 victory over Quinnipiac last Sunday. Holy Cross leads the Patriot League in scoring defense (64.5 points per game), steals (8.9 steals per game) assist-to-turnover ratio (1.35-to-1) and turnover margin (+4.8 turnovers per game).

Senior guard Robert Champion leads the team by averaging 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. Senior forward Malachi Alexander has also been playing well, averaging 12.1 points, 5.4 boards and 1.3 steals per contest while hitting 38.0 percent of his three-point attempts. In addition, sophomore forward Karl Charles has added 9.4 points, 4.2 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Rhode Island enters the game with an overall record of 6-4 this year. The Rams have lost three of their last four games, and are coming off an 82-77 setback at Houston on Dec. 10.

Senior forward Hassan Martin leads the team by averaging 16.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.9 blocked shots per game, but has missed Rhode Island’s last two games due to injury. Junior guard E.C. Matthews has added 15.4 points and 4.4 boards per contest, and junior guard Jared Terrell is chipping in with 13.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

Following the contest with Rhode Island, Holy Cross will head to Sacred Heart for a 7:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
