Holy Cross Athletics   12-27-2016

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior forward Malachi Alexander has been named The Rock Patriot League Player of the Week, for competition from Dec. 19-25. This marks the first time Alexander has received Patriot League Player of the Week honors during his collegiate career.

During Wednesday’s 72-67 victory at Sacred Heart, Alexander scored a career-high 38 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. He tied the school single-game record with seven three-pointers made against the Pioneers, while his 38 points were the most by a Crusader in a single game since Kevin Hamilton scored 38 points against Tennessee-Chattanooga on Dec. 19, 2005. Alexander also filled up the stat line during Friday’s 68-59 win over Marist with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. On the week, he averaged 25.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while hitting 68.0 percent of his field goal attempts and 66.7 percent of his three-pointers.

In 13 games played this season, Alexander leads the team by averaging 14.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, he has now totaled 1,062 points, 559 rebounds, 188 assists and 90 steals.

The Crusaders (6-7 overall) return to action on Friday, Dec. 30, when they travel to Boston University for their Patriot League opener at 7:00 p.m.
