Crusaders Set For Patriot League Semifinal Showdown With Colgate
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team continues Patriot League Tournament play when it heads to Colgate for the semifinals on Sunday, March 4, at 12:00 p.m. The contest between the Crusaders and the Raiders will be shown live to a national audience on the CBS Sports Network. In addition, the game will air on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
The No. 6 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, Holy Cross is coming off an 81-65 victory over No. 3 seed Navy in the quarterfinals. The Crusaders currently own an overall record of 12-18, and posted an 8-10 mark in regular season league games.
Junior forward Jehyve Floyd has led the team by averaging 12.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game, while ranking sixth in the nation with a .665 field goal percentage. Freshman guard Austin Butler has also been playing well, with averages of 9.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest. Freshman guard Caleb Green has added 9.0 points, 2.8 assists and 2.4 boards per game, while freshman forward Jacob Grandison is chipping in with 8.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.
Colgate is the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, and is coming off a 76-54 victory over No. 7 seed Lafayette in the quarterfinals. The Raiders stand 18-12 overall this year, and finished second in the conference regular season standings with a 12-6 mark against league foes.
Sophomore forward Will Rayman has led the team by averaging 14.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while hitting 41.7 percent of his three-point field goals. Senior forward Jordan Swopshire (12.2 points per game), freshman guard Jordan Burns (11.8 points per game) and senior guard Sean O’Brien (11.2 points per game) are also scoring in double figures for the Raiders.
The winner of the Holy Cross-Colgate contest will move on to the Patriot League championship game, where it will play either Boston University or Bucknell on Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m.
