  • The Lead: Junior guard Katie Doherty led the Crusaders with 13 points, but Holy Cross fell to Boston University 66-49 on Friday afternoon to open Patriot League play.

  • Doherty registered 13 points for the Crusaders while leading Holy Cross with three field goals from behind the arc.
  • Junior guard Tricia Byrne registered 12 points while leading the Crusaders with three steals.
  • Freshman forward Lauren Manis led Holy Cross with nine rebounds while posting 11 points.
  • Sarah Hope led Boston University with 17 points, shooting 6-for-13 from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Crusaders notched the first five points of the game, and took a 7-2 lead over Boston University early on in the first quarter.
  • The Terriers then went on a 22-7 run to surge ahead of Holy Cross, and held a 24-15 advantage at the end of the first.
  • Boston University outscored the Crusaders 14-7 in the second quarter to take a 38-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • The Terriers maintained their lead in the opening stages of the third quarter, but Holy Cross outscored Boston University 11-10 to cut the deficit heading into the fourth.
  • The Crusaders began the fourth quarter with a 9-4 run to make it 52-42 in favor of the Terriers.
  • Holy Cross cut the deficit to nine points with 2:27 remaining, but would get no closer as Boston University pulled ahead for the 66-49 victory.

THE TURNPIKE TROPHY

  • Boston University now leads Holy Cross in the Turnpike Trophy standings 5-1.
  • Hope was named the Turnpike Trophy MVP after leading the Terriers with 17 points and registering seven rebounds.
  • The next game in the series will take place tonight, as the Holy Cross men’s basketball team takes on the Terriers in Boston at 7:00 p.m.

  • Junior forward Amy Hasenauer tied her career-high for blocks with four.
  • Doherty scored in double figures for the 25th time in her career.
