Graduating Student-Athletes Celebrated At Commencement Exercises

Holy Cross Athletics   05-27-2017

The 2016-2017 school year came to a close on Friday, May 26, with Holy Cross celebrating its 171st Commencement Exercises at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester. Numerous student-athletes received their bachelor's degrees as part of the day's events, before celebrating with their families, friends, teammates and coaches. Check out some of the highlights from the day.

Looking Back

Five members of the graduating senior class told us what the last four years at Holy Cross have meant to them.

"As a student, Holy Cross was an eye opening experience. Coming from a predominantly African-American county close to the nation's capital was a false look at the actual demographics of the U.S. Worcester is very diverse and helped me open up to a large variety of cultures that I was never exposed to back home. Holy Cross also helped me gain experiences, opportunities, and relationships with bright people from all over the world. I might not have been able to obtain those had I stayed at home and not taken a chance by moving to New England. As an athlete, Holy Cross was a good challenge. I was exposed to a new level of basketball while also learning what it takes to be successful at the Division I level. I was able to create real memories and relationships with my teammates that I will cherish long after graduation." - Malachi Alexander

"My four years at Holy Cross have been some of the most rewarding yet challenging years of my life. Holy Cross's academics and athletics have pushed me to demand success and to understand the value of hard work. My relationships with my teammates, other students, coaches and faculty have been invaluable and were the cornerstones to my positive experience at Holy Cross. Holy Cross has shaped me into a better individual who strives to complete my alma mater's mission." - Isabela Bagi

"Being a student-athlete at Holy Cross for the past four years has provided me with an incomparable foundation for the future. In whatever I end up pursuing, I will always rely on the powerful Jesuit education I have received, the many lessons learned while being a women's basketball player, the valuable relationships I have formed, and the countless memories I have made. Ultimately, I know I will always be a part of the Holy Cross family." - Madelyn Ganser

"I am so grateful for the invaluable experience of being a Holy Cross student-athlete. The endless support from professors and faculty as well as the friendships I have made with fellow students have all contributed to these last four memorable years. I am now confident in my ability to make a difference, not just at my future job but in my community." - Mandy Sifferlen

"The last four years at Holy Cross have been the most difficult yet rewarding years of my life. I couldn't have wished to face the challenges or celebrate the victories with anyone else but my teammates and coaches. The friendships I made and relationships I formed at Holy Cross have helped me to grow tremendously and shaped me into who I am today. I know that I am leaving prepared to succeed in whatever avenue I choose to pursue down the road." - Jake Wieczorek
