Crusader Athletics Fund Shatters Records!

Holy Cross Athletics   07-19-2017

Thanks to the amazing support of Holy Cross alumni, parents, student-athletes, staff and friends, the Crusader Athletics Fund (CAF) shattered its past record of $1.63 million by raising $2.08 million in support of student-athletes from more than 4,400 donors! The total amount raised is a staggering 27-percent increase in dollars from last year!

This is the first time the Crusader Athletics Fund has raised more than $2 million!

“At Holy Cross, we are fortunate to have incredible support from many constituencies to the Crusader Athletics Fund,” said Director of Athletics Nathan Pine. “CAF raised $2.08 million in 2016-2017, our largest annual total ever, and these resources are invested directly into our programs to enhance the student-athlete experience and continue to drive our competitiveness. Our senior class played a significant role in this record-breaking year with 100 percent participation by our graduating student-athletes and I’m proud of the tremendous buy-in that we have established at all levels. I would like to thank everyone who made a gift to the Crusader Athletics Fund this year for their commitment to the success of our student-athletes and programs.”

“It was a tremendously exciting year thanks to the support and engagement of so many alumni, parents and friends,” said Tracy Barlok P19, Vice President of Advancement. "We had remarkable fundraising success this year, but breaking our Crusader Athletics Fund goal was the icing on the cake! Our alumni, parents and friends know how special this College is — how the Holy Cross athletics experience changes lives and opens doors. They receive that benefit, and they give back to future generations. We cannot thank them enough.”

Ten Holy Cross athletic programs broke their fundraising records (baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball). Six programs raised more than $100,000 (baseball, football, ice hockey, lacrosse, rowing and soccer) and three (football, ice hockey and lacrosse) pulled in more than $200,000, which are both CAF records.

Hockey (40.7%), baseball (40.5%), softball (39.5%) and football (39.3%) had the highest percentage of former student-athletes give back to the program, while 57.4 percent of former student-athletes made a gift to support the College this year placing Holy Cross number one in the Patriot league in this category!

The Holy Cross Department of Athletics Staff also displayed its commitment with 100 percent giving from its head coaches and senior administration.

For the second year in a row, every senior student-athlete made a gift to support Holy Cross. The senior class was able to achieve this feat at the earliest date in school history, hitting the mark in the month of February.

The Class of 2017, which were freshmen in Pine’s first year as the director of athletics at Holy Cross, saw firsthand over their four years what the support of the Crusader Athletics Fund can lead to in providing a first-class student-athlete experience and athletic success. The achievements of the Class of 2017 have paved the way for the future success of Crusader Athletics.
