Bertoletti Named Senior Associate Director of Sports & Tourism Department for the City of Surprise
Worcester, Mass. – Holy Cross Senior Associate Athletics Director Joe Bertoletti has accepted a position as Senior Associate Director of the new Sports and Tourism Department for the city of Surprise, Ariz. Bertoletti has served the College of the Holy Cross as the Senior Associate Athletics Director since 2014, overseeing external operations as well as five varsity programs.
Under Bertoletti’s guidance, the external operations team has seen unprecedented growth in revenue generation, as well as in regional and national branding. During his tenure, the Crusader Athletics Fund more than doubled in contributions and in 2016-17 raised a record $2.08 million in support of Holy Cross Athletics. Bertoletti also assisted in the $95 million Luth Athletic Complex capital project, which began in December 2015 and will be completed in the spring of 2018.
“I would like to thank Joe for his tremendous leadership and service to the College,” said Pine. “Joe has been instrumental in helping to move our department and athletics teams forward during his time with us on Mount St. James. We will miss him at Holy Cross and wish him well in his new adventure with the Surprise Sports and Tourism Department.”
The City of Surprise Sports and Tourism Department will operate as an Enterprise Department and will be focused on the operations of Surprise Stadium, Spring Training and the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex. The department will also establish public/private partnerships to assist in the future construction of recreation projects, including a regional recreation complex. This department will lead the coordination of city facility usage by Ottawa University and work with partners to attract regional and national events to Surprise.
A national search for Bertoletti’s replacement will begin immediately.
