Men's Lacrosse Announces 2017 Schedule
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross head men’s lacrosse coach Judd Lattimore and director of athletics Nathan Pine have announced the team’s schedule for the 2017 season. The Crusaders have 13 regular season games, hosting six at Kuzniewski Field.
Before beginning game play, the Crusaders will travel to New York City on January 23 for its annual kickoff dinner. The team will also meet with Holy Cross alumni for a day of networking. Later in the season on March 6, the team will travel to Boston for another networking day with alumni followed by the Top Corner Club Dinner at the EMC Club at Fenway Park. The Crusaders will begin the season on Saturday, Feb. 11 hosting their home opener against Providence. The Crusaders will then travel to Vermont (Feb 18) and host Harvard (Feb. 21), followed by their first Patriot League game with a contest at home against Lehigh (Feb. 25). The Crusaders will then travel to play Loyola (Md.) (March 4) which won the Patriot League Championship and made it to the NCAA Tournament semifinals last year.
On March 11, the Crusaders will travel to Bucknell. Holy Cross will next host Army West Point (March 18) at home and then hit the road for a big matchup against Brown (March 21) which also advanced to the NCAA Tournament semifinals last year. The Crusaders will then head to Marist (March 25) and will be back at home for their next game versus Navy (April 1) which made it to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals last year.
The Crusaders will finish off regular season play with three Patriot League games in a row starting with a road contest versus Lafayette (April 8), Colgate (April 15) at home and an away game at Boston University (April 22) in a Turnpike Trophy game.
The Patriot League Tournament will feature a six-team field with a pair of quarterfinal games played at the site of the higher-seeded team, with the sixth-seed visiting the third-seed and the fifth-seed at the fourth-seed. Those winners will then join the top two seeds in the weekend semifinal and championship rounds, played at the site of the highest overall seed in the tournament. The brackets will re-seed after the quarterfinal round. The quarterfinals will be on April 25 with the semifinals on April 28 and the championship game on April 30.
This past season the Crusaders qualified for the Patriot League Tournament making it the first time in the 59-year history of the program that the team earned a spot in postseason play. The Crusaders’ three Patriot League wins tied the program record. Holy Cross won three straight Patriot League games for the first time in program history. The senior class led the Crusaders to their most Patriot League wins during a four-year span in program history. The team’s 132 caused turnovers set a school record and the Crusaders’ 8.8 caused turnovers per game ranked sixth nationally.
