There's no getting around it — sports gear is expensive. With consumers spending up to $500 or more on full sets of equipment for sports like baseball, lacrosse, golf, and hockey, it's easy to understand why some athletes can't afford the hefty price tags at retail stores. Worst of all, prohibitive pricing can push out lower-income kids from certain sports.
Brendan Candon, the CEO of SidelineSwap, is bringing his vision to life: he and his team have created a simple, effective way for sports families cash in on their extra sports gear, and gives those looking for more affordable options a safe and easy way to access equipment. Candon, a former Division 1 athlete and coach, created a bustling online marketplace where athletes at all levels buy and sell their gear. Here are a few ways he has gained so much success.
This season the Holy Cross men's lacrosse team set a school record for Patriot League victories with four as they qualified for the Patriot League Tournament for the second straight year and for only the second time ever. Holy Cross earned its first-ever Patriot League Tournament win with the 11-7 victory at Navy on April 25 in the quarterfinals. The senior class led the Crusaders to their most Patriot League wins during a four-year span in program history with 11.
Candon is a member of the Top Corner Club Leadership Board. Go here for more information on the Top Corner Club.
