WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team defeated Sacred Heart, 4-2, in the ECAC Open Championship on Sunday, March 1 at the Hart Center. With the win, the Crusaders closed out the 2008-2009 season with an overall record of 24-2-1 (17-2-1 ECAC) and were named the 2008-2009 ECAC Open Champions.

The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving team closed out the season at the Patriot League Championships on Feb. 19-21, while qualifying individuals participated in the ECAC Open Championships on Feb. 28-March 1 in Cambridge, Mass.

The baseball and softball teams kicked off the 2009 season on the road. The baseball team fell to Loyola, 4-3, in the season opener, while the softball team opened the 2009 season with a victory, defeating St. Bonaventure 9-7.

Select members of the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field team will travel to Boston, Mass. on March 7-8 for the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Championships starting at 9:00 a.m.

The men's and women's lacrosse teams continue regular season action on the road. The women's team will play at UMBC on March. 6 at 4:00 p.m., while the men's team will play No. 13 Duke at 3:00 p.m. on March 3 and open up Patriot League competition on March 7with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Colgate.

The women's golf team will begin the 2009 spring season on March 6-7, when it competes at the Fairfield Invitational at the Crown Park Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
