WORCESTER, Mass. - The College of the Holy Cross is pleased to announce the creation of an annual award to honor the life of the late Dan Allen, head football coach at Holy Cross from 1996-2003. The Daniel Allen Sportsmanship Award will be presented annually to the Holy Cross athlete who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship that coach Allen exhibited throughout his life. The recipient will be chosen from among all Holy Cross athletes on the men's and women's varsity teams, and will be presented with a plaque so honoring him or her.
"During Dan Allen's coaching career at Holy Cross, he instilled in our student-athletes the importance of sportsmanship and commitment to the team above all else," said Holy Cross' president, Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., in announcing the award. "His own example of dedication and generosity communicated that lesson most powerfully. We are very pleased to honor Dan's memory with this annual award.
