WORCESTER, Mass. – Nine Crusader athletic teams will be in action this week, with men’s and women’s tennis and men’s golf teams beginning the 2012 season. The women’s soccer team kicks things off with a road contest against Rhode Island this afternoon, Sept. 4, at 7:00 p.m. Women’s tennis is scheduled to play its first match of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 3:30 p.m. versus Curry at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts. Both field hockey and men’s soccer will be on the road on Wednesday with the field hockey team taking on Siena at 5:00 p.m. and the men’s soccer team traveling to Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m. Volleyball is slated for three contests at the Holly Young Invitational hosted by New Hampshire on Friday, Sept. 7, and Saturday, Sept. 8. The team will match up against New Hampshire on Friday at 7:00 p.m. then play William & Mary (10:30 a.m.) and Central Connecticut (4:30 p.m.) on Saturday. Six other teams are in action on Saturday, beginning with the men’s and women’s cross country teams, which will run in the Nassaney Invitational hosted by Bryant at 9:00 a.m. Men’s golf will tee-off at the Central Connecticut Invitational while men’s tennis will participate in the Stonehill Doubles Invitational. The men’s soccer team caps off Saturday’s action with a 7:00 p.m. game against Bryant at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The field hockey team returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 9, with a 12:00 p.m. game versus New Hampshire at the Hart Turf Field and the women’s soccer team will finish up this week’s sporting events with a 3:00 p.m. home game versus Fairfield, also on Sunday.
